1. Quick‑look definition & key trade‑off

Video Agent is a video‑creation feature offered within Fotor’s online design suite. Users can provide a text prompt or script, and the system matches the content to a template, generates a voice‑over, and incorporates stock footage or images from the platform’s library. The result is a short‑form video that can be exported from the browser.

Benefit: The workflow is largely automated, so a typical social‑media clip can be produced in a few minutes without manual editing.

Limitation: All visual and audio elements are drawn from the templates and stock assets that Fotor provides. Projects that need custom branding, complex motion graphics, or precise timing often require additional manual work or a separate desktop editor.

Decision point – Choose Video Agent if the priority is speed and the output can fit within the available templates. Choose a more open‑ended editor (e.g., Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve) if you need full creative control or extensive custom assets.

2. Step‑by‑step workflow for creating a video

The description reflects the desktop‑browser version of Video Agent as of September 2026. Mobile apps follow the same logical sequence but use condensed panels.

1. Sign in / start a free trial

  • Go to https://www.fotor.com/video-agent.
  • Click Sign Up and register with an email address, Google, or Apple ID.
  • New accounts receive a short free trial of the Pro tier; a credit‑card is not required.

2. Choose a project type

The dashboard presents three tiles:

TileTypical lengthIntended use
Social Clip15‑30 sQuick posts for platforms such as TikTok or Instagram Reels
Product Demo30‑60 sShort showcases of a product or service
Presentationup to 2 minBriefer slide‑style videos for webinars or internal communication

Selecting a tile determines the default template pool and the maximum export length allowed for the free tier.

3. Enter a script or prompt

  • A text box labelled “Your script or idea” appears.
  • Options:
    • Paste an existing script.
    • Type a brief description (e.g., “Show a new coffee maker with upbeat music”).
    • Click Generate Script to let the AI draft a script.
  • When generating, the AI asks for a tone (professional, fun, informative, etc.) and a target audience, then returns a short script that can be edited in place.

4. Select a template

After confirming the script, a carousel of visual templates appears. Each thumbnail shows the scene layout, animation style, and colour palette. Hovering reveals a Use this template button; clicking locks the template to the project.

Template count: Fotor provides a range of video templates across several categories, as described on its pricing page.

5. Customize media assets

The next screen is split into three panels:

PanelFunction
Scene ListShows each paragraph of the script as an individual scene.
Media LibrarySearchable stock video clips, photos, and icons. Filters include keyword, orientation, and license type.
PropertiesAdjust background colour, overlay‑text style, and transition timing for the selected scene.
  • Adding media: drag a stock clip onto a scene or click Replace to upload your own footage (MP4, MOV, WebM). Uploaded files are stored temporarily on Fotor’s cloud and deleted after 30 days unless the project is saved.
  • Premium assets: items marked “Premium” have an associated fee, which is displayed before the asset is added.

6. Add AI voice‑over

  • Open the Voice‑over tab.
  • Choose a language and a voice style (e.g., Male – upbeat, Female – calm).
  • Click Generate; the AI synthesises the script into an audio track that aligns automatically with the scene timeline.
  • Options: preview, adjust speech speed, or replace the AI track with a custom MP3/WAV upload.

7. Fine‑tune timing and transitions

  • In the Timeline view (bottom of the screen) each scene appears as a horizontal bar. Drag the bar edges to shorten or lengthen a scene.
  • Click the transition icon between bars to change the effect (fade, slide, zoom, etc.).

Default timing algorithm – The system applies an automatic timing algorithm that estimates scene durations based on the script; details are available in the help centre.

8. Apply background music (optional)

  • Open the Music tab.
  • Choose a royalty‑free track from Fotor’s library, which is sorted by mood and tempo.
  • Set the overall volume and enable Auto‑duck to lower music level whenever the voice‑over is playing.

9. Preview

  • Press Play in the preview window to watch the assembled video.
  • Use the Scrub bar to jump to any scene and verify synchronization of video, voice‑over, and music.

10. Export

  • Click Export in the
