Compress images privately
Make JPG, PNG and WebP images smaller in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
- No upload
- Runs on your device
- No sign-up
- Free, no limits
How it works
- 1
Choose a compression level — Balanced suits most images.
- 2
Drop your images onto the page, click to choose them, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
- 3
Check the result with the Compare slider.
- 4
Download each image, or all of them as a ZIP.
What it does
Compress photos and graphics by re-encoding JPG and WebP at a smarter quality and shrinking PNGs with colour-palette reduction, the same technique the best PNG compressors use. Compare before and after with a slider, then download one file or a ZIP of all of them. Your images never leave your device.
Your files stay yours
Your images are compressed by code running in this browser tab. They are never uploaded to HeyGrow or anyone else, nothing is stored after you close the page, and hidden metadata such as GPS location is removed by default.
- Compresses JPG, PNG and WebP — PNGs with palette reduction, not just re-saving
- Three levels: Light, Balanced and Strong
- Optionally convert to WebP or JPG for even smaller files
- Before/after comparison slider for every image
- Batch processing with a ZIP download of all results
- Removes hidden metadata such as GPS location and camera details, and tells you what it removed
- Never returns a file larger than the original
Good to know
- Animated GIFs are compressed as a still image (their first frame).
- Safari versions before 17 cannot create WebP files — choose JPG there.
- HEIC photos from iPhones aren't supported yet; most iPhones can share photos as JPG.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your images are never sent to HeyGrow or anyone else.
How much smaller will my images get?
Photos straight from a phone or camera usually shrink by 50–80% at the Balanced level with no visible difference. Images that are already optimised shrink less — if re-compressing would make a file bigger, the tool keeps your original.
Does it work for PNG screenshots and logos?
Yes. PNGs are compressed by reducing them to an optimised colour palette, which typically cuts screenshots and graphics by 40–70% while keeping transparency.
What does removing metadata do?
Photos often carry hidden details such as the GPS location where they were taken, the phone model and the date. With the option on (the default), these are removed, and the tool lists exactly what it found.
Should I convert to WebP?
WebP files are usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and work in all modern browsers and most apps. Choose JPG if you need the widest compatibility, for example with older software.
Is there a limit on how many images I can compress?
No limits and no sign-up. Very large images (50+ megapixels) depend on your device's memory, especially on phones.
